ESPN's Adnan Virk on Sports, Parenthood and generational GOATS

Adnan Virk is easily one of most recognizable faces covering the world of sports and entertainment.

So we thought we'd ask him how he keeps it real at home.

1) How many kids do you have and how old are they?

3 boys. Yusuf is 10, Adeen is 6 and Shazz is one and a half.

2) You've been a broadcaster their whole lives, what do they think you do for a living?

Shazz is blissfully oblivious but starts pointing excitedly and saying Baba when he sees me on the tv (or so I’ve been told).

Adeen would rather I was Batman.

Yusuf is pleased since he, like dad, is an avid sports fan and enjoys when I give him a shoutout on air or on social media.

3) What are the 'teams' of choice in the house?

They have no other choice but to follow my lead. Our first great collective sports moment was the Eagles winning the super bowl. My nearly 30 years of fandom was rewarded and it was so wonderful to share it with them.

4) How will you handle debates about GOATs when your kids dismiss your picks?

I’ll explain to them that since Dad is a sportscaster, he knows more than they do. Check mate.

5) You raise your family in the US but you are Canadian, do you feel a difference raising your kids south of the border?

No we visit my parents in Toronto 2-3 times a year and I’m always wearing Canadian apparel and drilling it into their heads, that they have no choice but to love Canada as much as I do.

Or at least just love the Timbits from Tim Horton’s.

6) You are a big movie guy and run a an awesome podcast, who was your fave guest so far and who are you gunning for?

Thanks for the compliment! Robert DeNiro is one of my favorite actors and I’m still amazed he came to ESPN and we spent 20 minutes together.

He’s an all-time heavyweight in his profession but Bob couldn’t have been more gracious, down to earth or avuncular.

As for the one I’m gunning for…

Yusuf’s middle name is Scorsese. I adore the filmography of Marty and if ever I can interview him, I can officially die in peace.

7) What is the one movie you loved that you hope they NEVER remake?

The Godfather. I can already see Netflix turning it into an origin series. Don’t mess with perfection!
